Mission-Driven Procurement: Aligning Government Spending with Purpose and Impacty and Impact
Procurement emerged as a key driver of change at this year's Connected Places Summit 2025. The event featured four engaging sessions that examined how public spending can be reformed to foster social impact, enhance economic resilience, and encourage innovation.
These sessions brought together leaders from both the public and private sectors in the UK to address the practical implications of the new Procurement Act and discuss how to embed purpose into every stage of the commissioning process.
Ben Stevenson, our Chief of Staff and Head of Sustainability at Bloom, led the third session, “Mission-Driven Procurement: Aligning Government Spending with Purpose and Impact.” This discussion focused on how aligning spending with social value, sustainability, and the public good can yield long-term benefits and advance policy objectives beyond mere cost savings. The panel featured Steve Mason, Sustainability Consultant at Environmental Smart; Richard Dickinson, Managing Director at Social Value Business; and Danielle Aberg, Head of Social Value and consulting at Thrive.
